The Localvore Pledge

If not LOCALLY PRODUCED, then Organic.
If not ORGANIC, then Family farm.
If not FAMILY FARM, then Local business.
If not a LOCAL BUSINESS, then Fair Trade.

I’ve been thinking about this “localvore” thing quite a bit. It seems like those that are into it, are REALLY into it, and those that aren’t into it, know absolutely nothing. I’m very worried that there is no one in between, no one who simply integrates local eating into their everyday routine to the extent that they, personally, can.

This pledge is really helping me.

It’s helping me understand that it’s not all or nothing.
It’s helping me see that we all do what we can.
It’s helping me choose, small choices, large choices, all choices. Every choice means something, no matter how small.

There are days — or weeks, or months — where eating locally seems to be a huge challenge. But fear not. There are still choices. There are still options that are better than commercial agriculture or processed food products.

Remember…

If not LOCALLY PRODUCED, then Organic.
If not ORGANIC, then Family farm.
If not FAMILY FARM, then Local business.
If not a LOCAL BUSINESS, then Fair Trade.

That’s doable. And that’s doable every day. We all do what we can.
