Quick iPhone photos for a quick, weeknight meal

I’ve been pretty quiet on Local Dish lately, and it’s not all because of the new dining critic job at The Gazette. It’s also not all because of my farm share’s dreaded end a few weeks ago, though that does put a damper on some of my cooking enthusiasm. Surprisingly (perhaps to you), it’s also a technological issue. You see, my laptop died — and along with it, my copy of PhotoShop.

Post straight-from-camera images? Me? Obviously, you don’t know me at all.

We all have to eat, though, and I always need to cook. So, the un-PhotoShopped show must go on. I’m even going to skip the camera and go straight for the iPhone. Hey, it’s higher megapixels than my first digital camera, right?

Tomato, Rice and Andouille Soup

Remember my tomatoes? I am amazed by how many of them I’ve been using on an everyday basis — and I thought I would be using a lot. I go through a large jar every week easily, without even trying. I skip all canned tomatoes at the store! I am such a thrifty and dedicated homemaker!*

*This may not be true.

The recipe called for 1 cup on whole, canned tomatoes, pureed. I just pureed mine instead and went on with recipe as usual. The veggie mix makes the simple soup feel more homey with onions, peppers and diced celery. The latter was a really great addition, adding a freshness and crunch to the spicy soup.

A soup that took all of 40 minutes on the table, 20 of it spent watching Netflix in the other room. I guess THAT’s more the kind of homemaker I am.

And what’s wrong with that? :)
