The produce season seems to fly by so fast, partially because it does. Colorado has a shorter growing season than other climates, after all. We picked up our first CSA share the first week of June, so our season is about 19 weeks.
Time also seems to fly when you’re having fun, and this year’s CSA share with Javernick Farms was a lot of fun and a lot of new adventure. I was impressed with the quality of the produce and I loved the convenience (for my location and my schedule).
Yesterday, Oct. 12, was the last day of the Colorado Farm and Art Market. (An excellent market, in my opinion.) Yesterday was also the scheduled last day of our CSA, but lo and behold, there are still crops in the field. We’ll get to pick up a small share next week! Thanks, Javernick! That news makes me a little less melancholy.
So what does the (second to last) of the season bring? Goodies galore.

Hot and sweet peppers. The little yellow guy is a Hungarian wax pepper, which is warm instead of hot.

Yes, they’re really that orange, at least in the sun. These will be consumed raw within 24 hours, guaranteed.

Potatoes and red onions. I was thinking about Fingerling Potato Salad, but I’ve made that three times since posting the recipe. I’ll have to find some inspiration.

Pie pumpkin and some kind of heirloom squash whose name fled my mind as soon as I heard it. At least they keep for a while on the counter so I have time to figure it out…
